Mykolas Alekna, a freshman at Cal representing Lithuania, placed second in the men's discus throw final with a third-round mark of 217 feet (66.15m) at the NCAA Division 1 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Alekna, the collegiate record holder at 225-6 (68.73m), lost by one inch to Virginia's Claudio Romero with his second-round effort of 217-1 (66.17m).
